Romeu keen on Valencia switch, Canales claims

Valencia midfielder Sergio Canales has revealed that Chelsea midfielder Oriol Romeu would be happy to join the Spanish club.

However, Canales, who has played alongside Romeu at various age levels for the Spanish national team, says his compatriot is open to the idea of returning to La Liga.

He told Superdeporte: I have spoken with Oriol and I say sincerely that he is very taken by the option of Valencia.

This squad is perfect for a player to progress.

Bitesize Prediction: Leeds vs Ipswich – 23/12/23

Market: Both teams to score

Odds: 4/7 @

In what could prove to be an action-packed affair from Elland Road on Saturday lunchtime, Leeds will welcome Ipswich to Yorkshire this weekend.

Starting with the hosts, losing their Premier League status last season and coming under a huge amount of scrutiny, Leeds have their sights firmly set on securing an immediate top-flight return in the New Year. However, although the Whites might have continued to shine since they appointed Daniel Farke over the summer, the Yorkshire-based outfit have collected just a single point from their previous two Championship appearances. Nevertheless, still with their sights set on mounting an automatic promotion charge in 2024, Leeds have suffered just a single defeat from any of their las…

Rennes 11/10 to beat Nantes in Wednesday’s Ligue 1 showdown

Market: Rennes win

Odds: 11/10 @

Simply looking to carry on from where they left off prior to the festive break, Rennes will make the trip to a struggling Nantes on Wednesday evening when Ligue 1 marks its return.

Starting with the hosts, while Nantes might have shocked many when they opened the 2020/2021 campaign with eye-catching displays against Bordeaux and Nimes, Raymond Domenech s men have certainly come crash back down. Heading into France s festive break in the midst of what was a hugely worrying run of form, the Yellows were last seen getting hit with a 3-0 drumming away at Lyon. Now firmly looking over their shoulder and knowing they could end Wednesday s fixtures sat in the relegation play-off spot, the one-time France boss has seen his side fail to …

Spalletti calls time on Roma career

AS Roma coach Luciano Spalletti has announced his resignation from the Italian Serie A side, the Ansa news agency reported on Tuesday.

I submitted my resignation and the club accepted it, said Spalletti after a 30-minute meeting with club president Rosella Sensi.

Roma lost 3-1 at home to likely title contenders Juventus on Sunday to leave them bottom of the Serie A table, having lost their opening game of the season 3-2 at Genoa.

Spalletti, 50, joined the Giallorossi in 2005 from Udinese. His contract was due to expire in 2011.

He initially enjoyed success at the Stadio Olimpico, taking the side to second-placed league finishes in 2006, 2007 and 2008 and back-to-back triumphs in the Italian Cup in 2007 and 2008.

Roma also made it to the quarter-…

Romania revival will earn Domenech reprieve – media

Raymond Domenech, who is set to have talks with French football authorities over his future, will keep his post after France s draw against Romania, according to sports daily L Equipe on Monday.

The coach, under heavy pre-match scrutiny in light of France s dismal showing at Euro 2008 and a poor start to World Cup qualifiers, looked all but out of a job after the first 20 minutes against Romania on Saturday.

Two early goals from Florentin Petre and Dorin Goian stunned a flat-footed France side, as a worried-looking Domenech ominously paced the sidelines.

But a goal from Franck Ribery and a stunning 30-yard strike in the 69th minute by Yoann Gourcuff rounded off a gutsy Gallic comeback.

It looks good for Raymond, beamed L Equipe s front-page headline …

Loan moves will improve Arsenal pair

Arsenal defender Calum Chambers is set to move to Middlesbrough on a season-long loan

With deadline day looming large and a number of clubs scrambling around to get deals over the line it seems like there is an interesting situation developing at Arsenal.

The Gunners have now sealed the signing of Spanish striker Lucas Perez and are seemingly just waiting to confirm German centre-back Shkodran Mustafi as their player.

However, the most interesting situation could be the temporary exit of England’s midfielder saviour Jack Wilshere.

It was reported on Monday that the midfielder will be sent out on loan before the transfer deadline on Wednesday.

Fellow England international Calum Chambers is also close to leaving the club on a temporary basis, as …

Guardiola on Cancelo links: Manchester City buy players for many years, not six months

Pep Guardiola has appeared to rule out a January exit for Joao Cancelo by saying Manchester City sign players for many years, not for six months .

Cancelo joined City from Juventus ahead of the 2019-20 season but has struggled to hold down a place in Guardiola s XI, starting just four Premier League matches.

The right-back has consequently been linked with mid-season moves to both his former club Valencia and Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

However, Guardiola insists Cancelo, 25, was a long-term signing and a departure is therefore unlikely at this stage.

Today he was training with us, the City manager said. In the last month, Kyle [Walker, the first-choice right-back] was the best Kyle I have faced. I have given continuity to him.
