Germany and Italy lock horns at the Nouveau Stade de Bordeaux for their Euro 2016 quarter-final clash tonight.

As World champions, Germany are slim favourites to progress, but Italy have already beaten Belgium and Spain to make it this far, while unbeaten in all their competitive meetings against Germany so they shouldn’t be underestimated.

Germany have made it this far after finishing top of Group C with seven points from a possible nine. Joachim Loew’s men beat Northern Ireland and the Ukraine, while drawing to Northern Ireland in the group, and went on to comfortably dispatch of Slovakia in the last-16.

As for their opponents, Italy have surprised many with their form in the Euros. The Azzurri weren’t fancied by many before the tournament, but progressed into the latter stages after finishing top of Group E with six points.

While beating Belgium and Sweden in the group stages, Italy impressive saw past the defending champions Spain to make the quarter-finals, and the expected tactical battle between them and world champions Germany could see the two sides going the distance.
